Richard
Clifton, a Milford, Delaware native, is a self-taught artist who
specializes in wildlife. Richard has had great success in duck
stamp competitions in the past. He has surpassed many
wildlife artists with twelve state duck stamps to his credit. The
twelve duck stamps rank Richard sixth on the all-time duck stamp
list. Richard's work is popular with national collectors and has
been exhibited at many of the finest art shows in the country.
Locally his work can be seen at the Sussex County
Court building, and occasionally in other establishments throughout the
state. Featured on the show Southern Sportsman with Franc White,
his artwork has graced the covers of national magazines, and has been
engraved on a special edition Model 12 shotgun for Delaware Ducks
Unlimited. Richard, who was the 1989-1990 artist of the year for
Delaware's Indian River Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, was chosen to paint the 1990, 1991, and 1993 Sponsor Prints for Ducks Unlimited of
Delaware. In addition, Richard provided the artwork for a limited
edition Delaware Ducks Unlimited beer stein sponsored by Coors Brewing
Company. The original painting for this project is now in Peter
Coors personal collection. Richard is a true outdoor enthusiast,
and his experiences with nature continue to be a source of inspiration
for his artwork.
